To help your gums heal and get the most benefit from your Arestin treatment, please follow these simple instructions:
For the First 12 Hours:
- Avoid touching the treated area with your tongue, fingers, or any objects (like toothpicks or floss).
- Do not floss or use interdental brushes around the treated teeth.
- Do not eat hard, crunchy, or sticky foods (chips, popcorn, nuts, gum, etc.).
For the First 24 Hours:
- Do not brush the treated areas.
- Avoid vigorous rinsing or using mouthwash unless directed by your periodontist.
- Eat a soft diet (e.g., yogurt, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, smoothies, soft pasta).
For the Next 10 Days:
- Do not floss or use interdental brushes around the treated teeth until your provider gives you the go-ahead.
- Brush gently in the treated area after the first 24 hours using a soft-bristle toothbrush.
- Continue to avoid crunchy, hard, or sticky foods near the treated sites.
Additional Notes:
- Mild soreness or sensitivity in the treated area is normal and should improve within a few days.
- If you experience significant discomfort, swelling, or any unusual symptoms, contact our office promptly.
